Superintendent's Message - September

Delano Union School District

August 2019

Welcome Back, Everyone!

Our school year is off to a great start as we work together as one team with one vision. I wanted to reiterate my remarks from our district breakfast last week.

During a visit to the NASA space center in 1962, President John F. Kennedy noticed a janitor carrying a broom. He stopped the tour and walked over to the man and said, “Hi, I’m Jack Kennedy. What are you doing?” The man responded, “Well, Mr. President, I’m helping put a man on the moon.”

He was right: although it may have appeared to some that this man was just cleaning the building, the president knew that he played a part of a tremendous endeavor; nonetheless, he was helping to make history.

He was part of a much larger story - a story that would change the world. The same is true for all of us; and when an entire team embraces this attitude and perspective, incredible things can happen.

I believe this is true of our District team.

No matter what our role, we are contributing to a great and noble project: educating the children of this community. We are all part of a much greater story, and we are all changing the world - one student at a time.

Our theme for this year is: One Team, One Vision.

To be one team, we should recognize, in some fundamental way that we are all here to ensure our students’ success; that the caring and dedicated members of “Team DUSD”  share one common vision; that we wholeheartedly embrace that vision; and that we define our personal success by the success of our students.

Each and every member of “Team DUSD” plays a crucial role of ensuring that the students of this district are successful, by helping them to recognize and develop their talents; know that they are valued; and by helping them to build a strong foundation for their future college and career endeavors.

In our role, regardless of what we do, we can all contribute to helping students reach their goals by helping them shape a future where their hopes and dreams can become a reality. By fulfilling your role with excellence and by giving your personal best every day, you are helping our students have a brighter future. See the students with generosity and kindness in your hearts. Give the best you have to offer, and be confident that your efforts will make a difference in the lives of the precious children that we are all entrusted to serve.

I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and productive year.
