Ms. Suzanne Villaruz

Suzanne was born and raised in Delano, going to Albany Park, Del Vista and graduating 8th grade from Fremont School. Suzanne completed her education at CSU Bakersfield after attending UCLA and Bakersfield College. As a registered nurse, she has worked as a school nurse for over 25 years for the McFarland schools, receiving her credential from CSU Fresno.

Suzanne initiated the Delano's Junior Miss (now Distinguished Young Women of Delano) program in 1995. She has volunteered for many organizations in the community and finds volunteering with the schools to be her most rewarding activity. Girl Scouts and the Junior League of Bakersfield are the two organizations she credits with defining volunteerism and organizational leadership for her. She has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Delano since 2001, serving as President for four terms. She helped the Delano High School Renovation Project which initiated and selected the colors for the volunteer painting of the school campus during the mid-1990s.

Suzanne is currently serving on the Community Law Enforcement Liaison Board for the City of Delano. She has been an officer with Fil-Am Cultural and Educational Association and the Filipino Community of Delano. A passionate supporter of all art events in Delano, she is president of Delano Music Memorial Association. Since she has worked with very many young people over the years, Suzanne likes to feel that she has provided encouragement and support for them in their careers, both in school and as volunteers. Suzanne has been honored as the Woman of the Year by Delano Chamber of Commerce and Community Volunteer of the Year by the Latin American Citizen Association. Suzanne, along with her mother, Juanita Quiocho Villaruz and her sister, Arleen Villaruz-Gonzales, were all honored the 2012 Grand Marshals for Philippine Weekend. In November 2016, Suzanne was elected to serve on the Delano Union School District Board of Trustees. Her most cherished roles are that of mother to Nicole Ailina Villaruz, partner to Arnold Morrison, and now, grandmother to Thomas Ramirez.
